About the Cake Studio and Designers..

Hello, there. Thanks for visiting Lilac Sugar Cakes, a custom cake studio serving Austin, Texas and beyond. We made a name for ourselves specializing in European-style not-too-sweet cakes that delight both in look and flavor. Sickly sweet cake? Not on our watch! We have found our niche of catering to the couples who love tender cakes that focus more on flavor than on sugar. Meet the two bakers and designers behind our cake studio! 

Ksenia

Ksenia is your resident cake snob and the cake studio owner and chief designer . Educated by some of the most successful cake artists in the United Kingdom, she brings an emphasis on brining a taste of Europe to all of her cakes here in Austin, TX. 

After being in a corporate career that she loves for 15+ years, she started a cake studio that Ksenia runs out of her home as a way to express herself artistically and help families celebrate important milestones with great-tasting and fabulous-looking cakes.

Ksenia has been baking for 10+ years. She grew up in Russia and travelled all over Europe where her baking style was influenced by the great diversity of the baking tradition. Her mom taught her how to bake her first cakes using simple, but natural ingredients.

Since then Ksenia has been trained by such British cake artists as Paul Bradford (Paul Bradford Sugarcraft School) and Suzanne Esper (Suzanne Esper Cake School) in Scotland and by the American cake artist, Anna Astashkina (Florea Cakes), in South Carolina. She regularly travels to the UK to further her skills. 

When she is not obsessively creating cakes, she spends quality time with her three sons, runs long distance, and listens to Audible books.

Nataliia brings a blend of precision and creativity to the cake studio. With a passion for all things sweet, she complements Ksenia’s artistic flair with her meticulous attention to detail and experience in European style desserts. 

Her love for baking started in early childhood in Ukraine. For every holiday her grandmother, a master baker, created delicious treats. Nataliia’s most favorite memory is the aroma of her grandmother’s delicious baked goods spreading all over her village!

Having travelled all over Europe, Natalia infuses her creations with a touch of European elegance. Her expertise lies in perfecting the intricate designs and delicate flavors that make each cake a true work of art.

When she’s not busy crafting delectable confections, Natalia enjoys exploring new recipes, visiting local farmers’ markets for fresh ingredients, and living an active lifestyle which includes swimming and skiing.

European Cake Philosophy

Our inspiration for Lilac Sugar Cakes comes from our childhood in Russia and Ukraine as well as the time we spent in England, Scotland, Finland and Sweden (Ksenia) and Western Europe (Nataliia). Spring is a truly magical time in Europe and the aroma of blooming lilac will forever be imprinted in our souls. It is the time when bakers infuse sugar with lilac blossoms and then use it in baking lovely vanilla based cakes with just a hint of lilac.  

Since establishing the cake studio, we have found that our clients in Texas also crave cakes that are not too sweet and we continue delighting them with our flavors.
